Turn Toward the Light

There is Aways Hope.

“One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light,” said Carl Jung, “but by making the darkness conscious.”

Where would we be without hope? Hope is what keeps us going forward. I remember years ago reading about a young woman who was faced with a diagnosis of cancer of the collarbone. Before going in for surgery, she spoke about the shock and surprise as the lump grew and became impossible to ignore. She admitted to being frightened when she received the diagnosis, but quickly leaned upon her spiritual teachings that it is through the darkness that we show who we are. Although she was only twenty-one, she had a great deal of wisdom. She assured her parents that all would be well. She also stated that she would be like a sunflower and always turn her face toward the sun.

That’s what so many things in life can teach us right now. How disappointed are we about the invasion of Ukraine, that others would create war where there should have been peace? The thing we remember is that we always have hope. We have the hope that this war will end quickly, and the casualties will be at a minimum. We pray those in charge to come to their senses. Yes, indeed, we have hope.

Winston Churchill recognized the value of hope. A reporter once asked him what his country’s greatest weapon had been. He replied, “It was what England’s greatest weapon has always been, hope.”

On this second day of the Lenten Season of 2022, let us recognize the value of hope in our lives. There is always hope and that tiny spark will grow into a powerful beam of light if we allow it. The hope in my heart glows like the sun and becomes a light for others to see their way in the dark. I hope that you will be a beacon of hope and light too. Lovingly always, Rev.J
