These Are the Things I’m Thankful For

This lovely song by Garth Brooks has been running through my head all week. Some Sundays, our own musicians at Unity Gulfport offer a stunning performance of it. The lyrics are beautiful.

What I’m Thankful For
What I’m thankful for ain’t on no list
For it only in my heart exists
For time has helped me understand
The things I can’t hold in my hand

For those that came before my turn
Oh, from whom I’ve gathered lessons learned
That light the path that lies ahead
I see them as I bow my head

Yes, I’m thankful for the Lord above
The gift of His unending love
The promise kept that there is something more
These are the things I’m thankful for…………

Ah, yes, the things I’m thankful for are too numerous for a list. They’re in my heart and my mind.  I’m thankful each morning for waking in a comfortable home, the moon, the sun, the seasons, the rain, the people who serve in various capacities and the people who have been meaningful in my lifetime.  I’m even grateful for each challenge I’ve encountered.

If it had not been for all the challenges, I would not have grown in wisdom and sprit and would not have wakened to the understanding that there is a divine energy at work in, through and all around us. No, I would have been looking at life differently.  From only a human perspective, we get caught up in the dramas.

What I’m thankful for is that the dramas don’t affect my peace of heart and mind because I know there is a higher truth, there is a higher way of seeing everything and I strive every day to see with God’s Eyes rather than simply with human eyes.

Indeed, I’m thankful for every person in my life and the role that they play. As I bow my head, with a heart full of love, I will continue this spectacular human journey with gratitude.  Amen.
