That Ship has Sailed but There is Another One Easing into Port

How many times have we heard the phrase “That ship has sailed”?

It is a popular phrase that means a period of opportunity or challenge has already passed, and acceptance is the way forward.

It is an old phrase that was used in the time of sailing ships before newer steam and diesel-powered vessels came into use around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The earlier ships sailed when the tides and winds were right.

The usage of the phrase has come to mean that it’s too late to return to prior circumstances and to convey one’s acceptance of missed opportunities.

I want to add another meaning to it and suggest that yes, the past has occurred and we can’t go back, but there are numerous opportunities coming to us now and in the future.

So, instead of regrets and feeling that we wish we could relive what has already happened, let us reflect and then choose what our life will look like beginning today.

We can use affirmations like:

“I let go of the past with ease and grace, and embrace my future with faith, open-mindedness, open-heartedness and joyful anticipation.”

“The coming year that is gently arriving into port this evening will be my best.”

“ I will appreciate every moment.”
