When the outside world gets angrier and louder, that is when we need the Sabbath the most. It gives us the opportunity to rest in the Stillness and to be held in God’s love. It is an opportunity to restore, renew and reframe what is occurring in the outer world and our place in it.
Charles Fillmore said: “The Sabbath also symbolizes an attitude of mind in which we relax the outer consciousness, let go of all thought about material things, about the affairs of daily life, and enter into the stillness of the consciousness and begin to think of God. This Sabbath is kept any time we enter into spiritual consciousness and rest from thoughts about temporal things.”[i]
Yes, indeed, places and time for Sabbath and Sanctuary are incredibly important. Find those and back away from the world for a while.
