When We Pray for Spiritual Intervention

For years, many of us have whispered, “Peace is coming.”  We have especially felt it in moments of reprieve, in seasons of hope. But now, as fear surges through our country and cruelty gains ground, even the most faithful among us may find ourselves asking, “Where is God in the midst of this?”

I have learned not to rush past that question. It is tender, honest, and deeply human. It is not a failure of faith. It is simply trying to understand this human condition and how we might heal ourselves and the world.

When I quiet my mind and soften my heart, I notice that God is always here. I may long for spiritual intervention, but I remember that such intervention often begins with us. When enough of us choose spiritual vision over fear, we become the very presence for which we are praying. Spiritual intervention rises through those who are willing to look beyond anger and shouting, to return to the place of peace within. We remember that we are light holders and peacekeepers, and by offering our light into a shadowed world, we reveal truth where pretense has prevailed.

Peace is here, in my own heart. So, I pray, raise my vision to God’s vision, that I may see as God sees, love as God loves, forgive as God forgives, and act from that same holy clarity. It echoes the old question: What would Love have me do?

Then I return to calm and remember the Affirmation of Faith we speak every Sunday:

“I have faith that God provides ways when, to human sense, there is no way.”

And so, I allow Spirit to guide my every thought and action.
I pray for spiritual intervention now.
Amen.
