Doom and Gloom or Peace and Joy: You Get to Choose

We all know people who are looking at the news and visualizing the worst-case scenario. They’ll say, “We’ll never recover after this disaster.” or “The economy will never recover.”

Those of us who see from a higher perspective know that of course things will recover and will be okay. Those who lost their homes in the recent hurricanes, fires, etc. definitely have some temporary challenges to deal with, but they will recover. They may decide to build in another place with less risk, but they will be o.k. Many are feeling led to help them recover and that is good for the giver and the receiver. Acts of compassion and love are always beneficial in seen and unseen ways.

After Hurricane Katrina, a man who had lived in Bay Saint Louis all his life commented that the next morning after the storm and the destruction of buildings, houses, roads and bridges, he walked out onto the sand with all the debris and realized that the sea was calm, normal, and at peace. He was amazed at nature’s ability to go back to its balanced state after such unrelenting force. We can learn from that. That is our natural state as well. We learn a great deal about ourselves through the storms of life and then, when the time is right, we become stabilized and in harmony.

Don’t be frightened by rumors of impending doom, famine, and strife.  Be the one who stays calm amid chaos and sees further down the road.

A Course in Miracles tells us, “I could see peace instead of this.”

To take that thought further:

  • I could see rebirth rather than death.
  • I could see joy instead of sorrow.
  • I could see health instead of disease.
  • I could see abundance instead of lack.
  • I could see love instead of hate.

If you are having difficulty seeing things differently, try these practices daily:

  • Spend time in silence, avoiding distractions.
  • Gently nudge negative thoughts away when they appear.
  • Set an intention to bring peace, joy and love into your life.
  • Express gratitude.
  • Pray for yourself and the world. See the world at peace.

We are going through a period of temporary inconvenience. We can moan, complain, criticize, and blame, or we can take a deep cleansing breath and flow through it.

I hope that you can look at the world with rose colored glasses and be ready for blessings to come your way. Choose to believe in the goodness of God and the goodness of people. We are either joining in the stream of love and trust or we’re joining with fear. I’m choosing love, how about you? JudyV
